About the Conference

On the heels of last year's successful early western vehicle symposium in Santa Ynez, California, the National Stagecoach & Freight Wagon Association has announced their 2010 Annual Conference.  Packed with even more excitement for members & guests, the gathering is scheduled to take place in the scenic and historic town of Cody, Wyoming during the weekend of June 11-13.  The meeting will be full of unique and exclusive opportunities for NSFWA participants to explore the wheeled ways of the old west while also taking advantage of special access to Cody's Buffalo Bill Historic Center.

Buffalo Bill Historic Center

NSFWA attendees will be able to view the museum's three historic stagecoaches, as well as explore the role these coaches played in the promotion of Buffalo Bill's legendary Wild West Show.   The center is home to a vast number of Old West collections and museum officials have extended a private invitation for attendees to take part in a behind-the-scenes, V.I.P. walk through the archives of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This extraordinary access is designed to showcase information and collections that the average museum patron will rarely see.

NSFWA Programs

Members and guests will also share in a special program covering Yellowstone Coaches.  Board member, Rawhide Johnson will present a detailed history about these western icons and their excursions through the Park while also comparing them to other early coaches in the West.  Additional seminars include an opportunity to relive the excitement of travel on the Deadwood Trail with Doug Hansen’s firsthand account of driving an Abbot Downing mud wagon on this historic stagecoach route.  Gerry Groenewold will bring to life the fitting provenance of his original Mud wagon and David Sneed will discuss a number of his latest research projects and discoveries related to early western vehicle history.

Other Attractions

Other areas of interest include the Old Trail Town collection consisting of 26 original buildings dating to the 1800's, one hundred horse-drawn vehicles, and an extensive collection of Native American artifacts and memorabilia of the Wyoming frontier.  Cody, Wyoming is the Eastern Gateway to Yellowstone National Park and has long been a symbol of the American West.  For more information on area attractions log on to www.codychamber.org.
